* Written after so many mass shootings I can’t reminder which one it’s about. It’s about all of them. We can’t go on like this.
* Features my longtime friend and musical collaborator Rachel Mylan on duet vocals - this is a protest song and she is a social justice warrior. I wrote it for her to sing but she insisted that I sing along. We worked out the duet on her front porch and later filmed the video in my basement family room. Every time we worked on it I wondered if the mass shooting problem would go away and we wouldn’t need to sing it anymore. Sometimes I thought about removing the one explicit reference to guns (“it’s mundane to hear of a shooting”) to make it a more general song about our political divides. But even the pandemic couldn’t cure mass shootings, so the song stands.
* Originally released as a Facebook video, it was premiered at the URJ Biennial gathering in Chicago, December 2019
